The Irishwoman leads the Tenerife Women’s Open with -9 total after another great round at the demanding Abama Golf course
Marta Martín from Madrid is third with -5 and will be looking for her second victory in the Ladies European Tour
The Tenerife Women’s Open 2025 lived its second day of competition with Lauren Walsh reaffirming her leadership in the tournament, after delivering a round of 68 strokes (-4) for a total of -9, in another show of control and solidity on the challenging course of Abama Golf. The Irishwoman, who had already shone on Thursday with an error-free card, once again made it clear that she is a firm candidate for the title in Tenerife.
The day did not start in the best way for Walsh, with a bogey on hole 1, but her ability to react was immediate. She made birdies on 2, 4, 5 and 6 to recover the rhythm. In the second round, he made consecutive birdies on 10 and 11, but the course hit back with two bogeys on 13 and 14. However, Walsh responded again with a final birdie on the 17th hole to close a round that allows him to face the weekend as the solo leader. At the end of the day, she was very satisfied with her game: “It was a great day. I started off a little nervous, but then I got into a rhythm quickly,” said the Irishwoman. “I didn’t make as many putts as the first day, but the long game was solid. This course requires you to be in the right area of the green, and it’s something I’ve worked on really well with my coach Shane, who knows Abama inside out. He has helped me a lot this week to read the course and stay calm in every situation.”
Walsh thus starts with a two-stroke lead over Singapore’s Shannon Tan, who with a round of 66 strokes (-6) was the player of the day. Four birdies in the last five holes catapulted the Magical Kenya Ladies Open 2024 champion to second place with a -7 total.
In third position, a group of eight players with -5, including Marta Martín from Madrid, who once again offered an excellent image with a round of 69 strokes (-3). Playing with patience, order and a lot of success with the putter (which she defines as her favorite club), she made birdies on 4, 10, 14 and 17, with a single bogey on 16. “I faced the course as I did yesterday, with a clear and firm plan. That was the key,” he explained. “I like the greens, they are complicated, but I feel comfortable reading them. I like to kick and I think it’s something that gives me an advantage”. About the environment, Marta was clear: “Having my family here is lucky. It’s not easy for them to move around the field, but they do it with all their love. They give me extra energy.
The player from Madrid, who made her comeback this week after some neck problems, was also very grateful to the circuit and the tournaments held in Spain: “We have three events at home this year and all of them with a great economic endowment. That says a lot about the country’s commitment to women’s golf. We are very grateful.
Spanish balance: six players make the cut
In addition to Marta Martín (-5), five other Spanish players made the cut set at +3. Ana Pelaez and Blanca Fernandez, with rounds of -1 and par respectively, are in with a chance of doing well this weekend. Luna Sobrón (+1), Clara Moyano (+2) and Amaia Latorre (+3) will also play the last two rounds.

Moyano finished the day at par on the course and +2 to the total, thus securing a place among the 61 best that will be present this weekend at Abama Golf.

The Catalan, seven months pregnant, missed the cut but leaves happy: “It was special to say goodbye here. Now it’s time to prepare for the most important thing”.
