The Santander Golf Tour 2025 is about to start its tenth edition with more excitement than ever. In an announcement that reinforces the commitment of the circuit with the development of women’s golf, it has been confirmed that the player who leads the ranking after the first three rounds of the season will get an invitation to play the Tenerife Women’s Open, Ladies European Tour (LET) tournament to be held at Abama Golf (Tenerife) from 5 to 8 June.
The race for this great prize starts next week, on 20th and 21st March, at the links course of Empordà Golf, (Girona). The format chosen for the event is the Birdie Challenge, which was a novelty on the circuit last year and was a great success among professionals, rewarding the player who gets more birdies in the overall tournament. To encourage even more offensive play, players are guaranteed a par on each hole. If a player fails to make a birdie on the first nine holes, her score on the ninth hole will be a bogey, and the same will happen on the second round. This modality allows the golfers to attack each flag without fear of making mistakes, offering a dynamic and exciting spectacle from the first day of competition. María Herráez, current champion of the circuit ranking, won the tournament at the same venue last year.
The second tournament of the season will be played at Club de Golf El Saler (Valencia), on the 9th and 10th of April, under stroke play format. Considered one of the best courses in Spain, its design combines areas of dunes next to the Mediterranean with stretches of pine trees, offering a challenge where wind management and accuracy in long shots play a key role in the final result.
The third and last tournament before defining the player who will enter the Tenerife Women’s Open will be the match-play tournament at Real Golf de Pedreña (Cantabria), from the 14th to the 16th of May. This event, which has become a classic of the Santander Golf Tour, celebrates its first day in stroke play format, and the best sixteen advance to the eliminatory phase, where they face each other during the last two days in an exciting match-play draw until the champion is crowned.
The Tenerife Women’s Open represents a great opportunity for the Santander Golf Tour players to compete in a top level event, a novelty this year in the European circuit. Abama Golf, the venue for the tournament, is a course designed by Dave Thomas, characterised by its technical design and spectacular views of the Atlantic and La Gomera. Its course will demand the best of the participants’ repertoire, in an event that will feature the best players of the LET.
With this announcement, the Santander Golf Tour continues to consolidate itself as a springboard to the elite of women’s golf. In addition, it is worth remembering that the winner of the ranking of the circuit at the end of the year will receive an invitation to the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España presented by Oysho, also belonging to the Ladies European Tour, as well as a direct place for the final phase of the LET Qualifying School (Q-School), a key opportunity to access the top circuit of European women’s golf.
